Q 1: What is your Background in Therapies?? A: My background was in toolmaking as I completed a 4 year apprenticeship when I left school , I knew it was not for me. I was cycling a fair bit then, developed knee soreness and so started the treatment merry go around from a few different physio`s with no luck. I ran into a family friend who suggested a massage therapist, 2 treatments later pain free, I was sold. I completed a seven week intro course, followed by enrolling into a certificate in massage at the southern school of natural therapies, sold my car to pay for the fees and started it in 1989. I completed the certificate, then towards the end of the cert I was lucky enough to secure job at a health resort working 4 days a week with 5 1-hour massages on each day, working on the rich and famous. I then took a year off study and worked at the resort and then a sports treatment clinic opened up down the road, went down and got a foot in the door, I believe now that this is the perfect way to build your body work skills. I was able to fully absorb my cert knowledge. I then went back to finish the diploma, I was so thirsty for it then and was lucky enough to be mentored by the physio`s, moved away from the resort work and got a fulltime job at a chiropractors.
Q 2: Do you also have a Business and where is it located?? A: I run and own my clinic in Geelong, we have 5 therapists all soft tissue and it`s a great setting.
Q 3: What kind of work does your Client base do? A: My work is exclusive in that it is all treatment based usually on referral from Dr, physio, chiro, osteo, pod, word of mouth, coaches, exercise physiologists etc..
Q 4: What would you call your most memorable moment in your Career?? A: Most memorable moment there has been plenty, 1st time I took money for a massage to walking out with the Australian Olympic Team at 2004 Athens Olympic Games. As for famous people there has been plenty, but I still get the most out of helping a family or friends.
Q 5: What are you reading at the moment?? A: Reading Rupert Guiness book on his experience on working at 27 tour de france, I'm a cycling nut , I race road.
Q 6: In your spare time away from work and workshops, what do you do? A: I have 3 young kids so most of my time with them , I squeeze in my road racing, and a social ilfe.
Q 7: Do you treat yourself to a regular Massage or treatment?? If so,do you get great benefit? A: Yes regular massage is a must, just to be on the table is therapeutic. My cycling keeps me on the table regularly.
Q 8: What inspires you??What do you hope to achieve in doing Workshops? A: What inspires me is my family, passion for what you do in a balanced nature, I see a lot of people tip the scales and get out of control, I don`t want to be one of them. As for workshops I hope to help others increase their understanding through my experience so that you can work more efficiently.
Q 9: If you are down to your last $10,what would you do? A: My last $10 dollars, easy, more oil or cream. Can always earn more with my hands.
